This
week we discussed E-Learning concept, purpose, application and potency;
benefits and threats of E–Learning ; E-Learning opportunities in Indonesia. I
have made the summary and here we go.
E-Learning
E-learning is a computer based educational tool or
system that enables you to learn anywhere
and at any time. Today e-learning is mostly delivered though the internet.
E-learning
offers the ability to share material in all kinds of formats such as videos,
slideshows, word documents and PDFs. E-learning offers an alternative that is
faster, cheaper and potentially better than traditional learning. (Source: http://www.talentlms.com/elearning/).
The purpose of e-learning is to allow people to learn for personal
accomplishment or to earn a professional degree, without physically attending a
traditional university or academic setting(http://www.ehow.com/about_4788168_what-purpose-e-Learning.html).
There so many e-learning tools and
application

I have been used edmodo for my one of my subject, it
is very helpful. I can share my assignment, comment the post and this
e-learning application is connected with teacher and also parent.
In one side E-learning
has the advantages. They are first more flexible, because e-Learning can be
done in short chunks of time that can fit around your daily schedule. Second it
is a very mobile method, as e-Learning can be done on laptops, tablets and
phones. Third no travel, because
as just mentioned, e-Learning can be done wherever you have a device capable of
doing so. Then lower cost, as
you aren’t using a trainer’s time or any room or equipment, e-Learning tends to
be the much cheaper option. Next tailor
it to you, e-Learning courses aren’t confined to be fixed to try and
suit the needs of the majority. Then technological
possibilities – e-Learning is fast becoming a more and more popular
method and with it, so has the investment into how to improve it further. The
last global – With very few
restrictions companies can be confident that their staff can receive the same
content regardless of their location, and in many cases, their nationality. On
the other side, e-Learning has disadvantages. They are first lack of control, learners with low
motivation tend to fall behind when using e-Learning as there are no set times
to be doing it and they are responsible for the organization themselves. Second
learning approach, it
doesn’t appeal to all learning styles so some learners will not enjoy the
experience. Third isolated,
because a lot of questions are a lot easily answered when face to face with
someone when you can guarantee an instant answer. Then technology issues – With heavy reliance on computers that
e-Learning brings, comes the potential risks that comes with it. The last, Computer Competency – Some employees
might not be too comfortable using computers, especially if their jobs don’t
require them to.

In Indonesia e-Learning is well
known. In this modern era, everybody may understand well about e-Learning. In
my opinion the using of e-Learning is practical and helpful for us as a
students.
